Regal Brick Manse

The opportunity to create a lakefront home on a quiet, private lane in the city offered many challenges. With an accelerated schedule, the clients sought to combine two small lots into one, but with a steep slope across the lane dictating a tight window for a construction start, the goal was to move very quickly. Dissatisfied with a prior architect’s progress, the owner looked to start anew. Given a unique opening in our schedule load, two months after the initial meeting with the owner, AOME finished construction drawings for a completely new design. With a cooperative permitting authority, a building permit was issued with thirty days remaining for the groundwork. With the skillful execution and intense collaboration between the contractor’s team, AOME, and the interior designer, a delighted owner moved into their new home a brief ten months later.

The shallow, three-story floor plan on a wide lakeside property creates an incredible opportunity for private views and light-filled rooms throughout this contemporary Georgian. Layers of traditional wood detailing outline exterior brick forms punctuated with shaded porticos and a wonderfully intimate outdoor room for entertaining family and friends. The entry courtyard carefully frames the view between the classic columns, through the dining room and to the lake beyond.
